Overview
A sports news and information hub — live scores, match predictions, breaking news, and tournament coverage across football, cricket, basketball, motorsport, and combat sports. It needed a content-heavy, easy-to-navigate WordPress build that handles a high volume of articles with clear categorisation and fast, scannable reading.
The challenge
Make a large, frequently updated content library easy to browse and quick to read — clear navigation across many sports and tournaments, scannable article and category templates, and a build that's easy to maintain and publish to at volume. Coverage spans seven top-level sections (football, cricket, live scores, basketball, Formula 1, boxing and MMA), each with its own leagues and tournaments underneath.
Approach
- Defined the visual direction and a content-first information architecture (sport → league/tournament → article).
- Designed responsive templates — home, sport/category hubs, and article/match-report pages with publication dates and read times.
- Built a custom dark WordPress theme: colour-coded sports, a breaking-news ticker, a magazine-style home page with sport sections, and a light-mode toggle that remembers the reader's choice.
- Let page-builder pages render full width, while posts, archives and category pages use the theme's own templates.
- Built and launched on WordPress, set up for ongoing high-volume publishing.
- Added an AI auto-publishing pipeline — LLM-drafted articles flow through an automation layer into WordPress for editorial review, built for 20–30 articles a day.
- Kept a person in the loop: the pipeline posts to a key-protected WordPress endpoint that creates drafts by default, with category, tags, featured image and SEO fields filled in, ready for review.
Outcome
A live, content-rich sports news website with clear multi-sport navigation and a maintainable publishing setup. The live home page runs breaking news, a featured story, sport sections and a dated latest-articles feed with read times. The publishing endpoint is live and rejects requests without a valid key. This case has no traffic figures to report.
